WHAT IS A COMPLETE AMINO ACID PROFILE?

Amino acid profiles refer to the composition and concentration of individual amino acids present in a protein source. Protein powders are commonly used as dietary supplements to support muscle growth, recovery, and overall protein intake. The amino acid profile of a protein powder can vary depending on the source & quality of the protein used.

Proteins are made up of chains of amino acids, and there are 20 different amino acids that can be found in proteins.

These amino acids can be classified into two categories: essential and non-essential.

  • Essential amino acids are those that the body cannot produce on its own and must be obtained through the diet or supplementation.
  • Non-essential amino acids, on the other hand, can be synthesized by the body.

The amino acid profile of a protein powder is typically expressed as a percentage or as grams of each amino acid per serving. Some common amino acids found in protein powders include:

  1. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs): This group includes leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAAs are important for muscle protein synthesis and recovery.

  2. Glutamine: Glutamine is an amino acid that plays a crucial role in muscle recovery and immune function.

  3. Arginine: Arginine is involved in various physiological processes, including protein synthesis and blood flow regulation.

  4. Lysine: Lysine is essential for collagen synthesis, tissue repair, and the production of enzymes and hormones.

  5. Tryptophan: Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood and sleep.

  6. Methionine: Methionine is important for the synthesis of other amino acids and is a source of sulfur in the body.

The specific amino acid profile of a protein powder can vary depending on the source of protein. For example, whey protein, which is derived from milk, has a different amino acid profile compared to soy protein or pea protein. Different protein sources may be more or less abundant in certain amino acids, which can influence their nutritional value and potential benefits.

At 13 we've made sure we source only the best quality protein, that means it has a quality amino acid profile. Our Whey & Vegan proteins both have a premium composition and concentration!

PS our Vegan Protein has a complete Amino Acid Profile... most vegan proteins does not have a complete profile
