ARE YOU READY TO COMMIT TO PROGRESS THIS YEAR?
Here we go….

MOTIVATION IS OVERRATED.
ENVIRONMENT OFTEN MATTERS MORE.

I love this statement from James Clear.
I am very motivated to be healthy, add more lean muscle, run more kilometers this year, to become a better dad, husband, to keep growing our business & to be intentional with my spiritual growth more than ever… but does my actions show this most days? NO.

This year I’m committing to a journey with YOU! To learn, grow & create new habits, that’ll inform my goals & the person I want to become.

SO HOW DO I MOVE MY MOTIVATION INTO ACTION?

CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT. CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

1 - Automate your good decisions.

For years my wife & I have struggle to dial in our nutrition, not supplements, but our daily meals. We used to work 10 ours a day, 6 days a week, got hom smashed, tried to get to a workout & then still make food… so we always ended up grabbing take aways for lunch & sometimes dinners… so things needed to change -

We got 2 amazing companies that prepares food for us according to our lifestyle ( surprisingly it even saved us money, because we stopped wasting food ) They would prepare us good quality whole foods for lunch & the other high protein dinners, so all we needed to plan was breakfast - gamechanger.

My other big problem was planning fatigue. As an entrepreneur you are constantly problem solving, planning & implementing, by the end of the day the last thing I wanted to do is figure out what I was going to do in the gym today… I’m highly motivated to train but program planning drained me…solution…

I joined a crossfit gym 5 days a week, our coach does the programs for the month, so all I need to do is get there and smash what is on the whiteboard, problem automatically solved.

I’ve automated my 2 big habits, eating well & training hard.

2 - Bring good habits into your flow.

People working in supply chain jobs understands this, create your workspace to use less energy & be more productive.

If you want to get up and have water first thing in the morning, put it next top your bed before you go to sleep tonight! You don’t want to go on your phone first thing when you wake up? Then go charge it in your living room during the night, you are now changing your waking up habits.

Get your good habits in the flow of your normal behaviours - Join a gym that is close to your work or your favourite coffee shop, not the one that is out of your way. When the gym flows into your everyday patterns it might just become a good habit.

This week I needed to take my car in for a service, so I dressed in my running gear, dropped the car at the service center and run the 5km back home. It’s a simple yet affective way to add training into your flow.

3 - Remove the temptations

Your environment will either be setup to tempt you or setup to help you progress.

What bad habits do you have that de-motivates you or does not affirm the good habits you want to build? Identify them & remove or replace -

Replace: here’s an example, you love having a beer after a workout, but you know having alcohol everyday is not helping your healthy habits… replace that beer with and alcohol free beer or a protein shake, replace the feedback & reward loop with something healthy & break the habit.

Remove: you like me have a late night sweet-tooth. Having a sweets cupboard in your living room is not going to help, you need to remove the temptation & clear out the cupboard. Remove the sweets, remove the temptation.
